Haryana Police Reports 38% Drop in Crimes Against Women

Chandigarh: The Haryana Police have achieved a significant 38% reduction in crimes against women in 2025, according to official data. Cases fell from 13,945 in 2024 to 8,723 in 2025, marking a substantial improvement in women's safety across the state.

Multi-Layered Strategy Behind the Decline

The reduction is attributed to a comprehensive, multi-layered strategy focusing on ensuring women's safety at home, in the workplace, during travel, and throughout legal proceedings. Director General of Police Ajay Singhal emphasized that women's empowerment and equality can only be realized when safety and security are guaranteed.

"The talk of women's empowerment, equality and dignity must be preceded by one thing — safety and security. We in the police are directly responsible for making women's empowerment possible," said Singhal.

Five-Year Trends Show Consistent Decline

Police data reveals a consistent fall in major crimes against women over the last five years. Rape cases declined from 1,716 in 2021 to 1,033 in 2025, while kidnapping and abduction cases dropped from 2,958 to 1,249 during the same period. Family cruelty cases also reduced from 5,755 to 4,562. Notably, this decline occurred despite an increase in the state's women population from 139.2 lakh to 146.3 lakh. The overall case resolution rate remained close to 98%.

Infrastructure and Support Systems

To strengthen support systems, the Haryana Police established 33 Women Police Stations and 365 Women Help Desks across the state. One Stop Centres provide counselling and legal support to survivors of domestic violence, dowry harassment, and other crimes.

Workplace and Travel Safety Enhancements

The state has enhanced workplace and travel safety through Internal Complaints Committees, the Working Women Safety Portal, and the Durga Shakti mobile application linked with Haryana 112 emergency services. More than 93,999 working women are currently registered on the portal.

A dedicated Durga Shakti Rapid Action Force, comprising 24 companies and 50 patrol vehicles, conducts regular patrolling across public places and transport routes to improve women's safety and confidence, said the DGP.
