Two held with Rs 24 lakh cash in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad: Two individuals were arrested in the Link Road area on Saturday night with unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 24 lakh. The suspects, identified as Rashid and Suhail, are originally from Meerut but currently reside in Mustafabad and Bhagirathi Vihar, respectively. They were apprehended at the Delhi-Ghaziabad border.

Police Investigation

Sahibabad ACP Amit Saxena stated that the duo could not provide a satisfactory explanation for the cash. Despite the arrest, no case has been registered yet. Officials from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) department and Income Tax (IT) department are currently questioning them.

"They were unable to provide any satisfactory answers regarding the cash found in their possession — including whose money it was, where they were taking it, why they were carrying it and why they were transporting it so late at night. When they were brought to the Link Road police station for questioning and their phone records were checked, it was revealed that they previously conducted several similar hawala transactions," Saxena said.

Further investigation of their phones uncovered information about 10 GST firms, of which nine are registered in Delhi and one in Haryana. These firms have been involved in multiple instances of GST fraud. The GST department and the IT department have already been informed about these findings.

The police are continuing their investigation, and further details are expected as the questioning proceeds.
