In a decisive victory, Ravi Raj Desai has been elected as the vice-president of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) for the term 2026–27. The election, held at Platinum Hall in Sarsana, saw Desai secure 1,887 votes, defeating his opponent Nitin Bharucha, who managed only 599 votes and subsequently lost his deposit.
Election Details and Turnout
The polling took place from 9am to 5pm, but voter participation was notably low. Out of approximately 14,000 eligible voters, only around 18% cast their ballots, resulting in 2,505 votes. Of these, 18 were declared invalid and one ballot was reported missing, leaving 2,486 valid votes. The low turnout was attributed to the summer heat and the ongoing vacation period.
Margin of Victory
Desai's victory margin was a substantial 1,288 votes. As Bharucha failed to secure the required 30% of votes to retain his deposit, his security amount was forfeited.
This election marks a significant milestone for the SGCCI, with Desai's leadership expected to bring new initiatives to the chamber.
