The Karnataka state government has resolved to expedite the ambitious Mega Textile Park project under the PM MITRA initiative, as announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the state budget. Minister Priyank Kharge stated that the Department of Handlooms and Textiles has been directed to promptly revise the Detailed Project Report (DPR), incorporating external infrastructure works for the Kalaburagi park, and submit it to the Project Approval Committee (PAC) of the Government of India.
Key Decisions from Progress Review Meeting
Industries Minister MB Patil, Kalaburagi District Minister and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge, along with other officials, participated in a progress review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh. The meeting deliberated on the immediate commencement of the first phase of development works by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB). Following the first phase, the second phase will be initiated based on job creation and investment volume.
Funding and Infrastructure Development
Under the Central Government’s Development Capital Support (DCS) scheme, 30% of the total project cost, up to a maximum of Rs 500 crore, will be provided. This grant will be utilized for developing internal infrastructure, including roads, water supply, electricity, a Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP), and hostels. To release the first instalment of funds for this massive textile park project—which is expected to give a new direction to the economic growth of Kalaburagi district and provide employment opportunities to thousands—a minimum of Rs 25 crore will be allocated by the state implementing agency.
Implementation and Next Steps
Priyank Kharge informed that authorities have been instructed to begin the process of disbursing funds for physical infrastructure development. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary of the Department of Industry and Commerce S Selvakumar, Textile Department Secretary Rohini Sindhuri, KSIIDC Managing Director Khushbu Ghoyal Chaudhary, Textile Department Commissioner KB Basavaraj, KIADB CEO Govindarreddy, and others.
