Chennai: A team of experts from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) will collaborate with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to resolve technical issues on its portal for the Class XII revaluation process. This initiative was announced by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday. The IIT-M team will work alongside specialists from IIT Kanpur to enhance the technical workflow of the portal.
Role of IIT Experts
While IIT-M has not yet responded to queries regarding its specific role, a statement from the Union Ministry of Education outlined that the expert teams will examine portal stability and server performance, assess the overall robustness of the IT infrastructure, and assist in implementing corrective measures. The statement added, "The team will also ensure that login authentication, user access systems, and payment gateways function accurately and properly."
Portal Glitches and Impact
The CBSE launched a portal on May 19 to allow students and parents to apply for scanned copies of answer sheets, with revaluation applications set to open on May 26. However, the portal has been plagued by glitches since its launch. Many users were unable to access the portal, open links, or complete payments. In some instances, the fee for answer sheet scans, which is Rs 100 as per the CBSE's revised rate, surged to Rs 60,000 due to errors. These issues prompted the CBSE to extend the deadline for scan applications from May 22 to May 24. The board had already appointed its own technical experts on May 20, but problems persisted through Saturday.
School Heads Welcome Move
School principals have welcomed the decision to involve experts from premier institutes. "It was indeed saddening to see students facing issues repeatedly for no fault of their own. There shouldn't be any issue at least in the applications for revaluation, which commences from May 26," said the principal of a school in Adyar.
