As new details about the fifth season of the popular series 'Gullak' emerge, it has been confirmed that actor Anant V Joshi will replace Vaibhav Raj Gupta in the role of Annu Mishra. Joshi, known for his work in 'Maamla Legal Hai' and '12th Fail', steps into the character after Gupta portrayed it for four seasons. In a candid conversation, Joshi shared his thoughts on the casting change and joining the beloved show.

Joshi discussed the significant change during an interview with Hindustan Times, revealing that he underwent a rigorous process before filming. He acknowledged the responsibility of playing Annu Mishra, a lead role in the OTT series. "It didn't happen on the first day. Actually, we had this whole process before even walking onto the set. We had multiple rounds of readings and discussions with the makers before both of us could be very sure of moving forward with such a big decision," he shared.
Joshi emphasized his desire to bring his own interpretation of Annu, noting that the character is evolving. "My intention was never to mimic somebody or play the character the way someone else has. Because the characters are so much in the writing itself," he said. He added that since Annu is stepping out into the "wild, wild world" this season, he wanted to portray the changes in his own way. However, he also acknowledged retaining the essence that fans love. "Whenever he is at home, I made sure that the people who love Annu the way he was—I wanted to retain that," he quipped, showing his dedication.
How Anant V Joshi Feels About Joining an Established Character in 'Gullak 5'
Joshi described the opportunity as "exciting" and said it felt natural. "This used to be a very dining room conversation, like Gullak. Having a call to play a character so important for this show, I think it was great excitement rather than being nervous," he explained during the interview.
Why Did Vaibhav Raj Gupta Leave the Series After 4 Seasons?
Last year, it was confirmed that Vaibhav Raj Gupta would not return for 'Gullak 5' and would be replaced by Anant V Joshi. His character was introduced through a teaser video showing him with his family, with a voiceover saying, "Did you recognise him? Do you know who he is? Don't focus on his face, but on his name. His name is Annu Mishra. Yes, the same Annu Mishra — the eldest son of Shanti Mishra and Santosh Mishra." As of now, no official reason has been given for Gupta's departure.
