Silambarasan's STR51 with Ashwath Marimuthu to Start in Feb 2027
STR51 with Ashwath Marimuthu to Begin in Feb 2027

While Silambarasan TR is currently occupied with the shooting of 'Arasan', fans waiting for his collaboration with director Ashwath Marimuthu may have to exercise a little patience. The much-discussed project, tentatively titled 'STR51', is now expected to commence production in February 2027. According to co-producer Archana Kalpathi, Ashwath has already locked the screenplay for the ambitious fantasy-action film. The makers are reportedly planning to start filming once both the actor and director complete their ongoing commitments.

According to Pinkvilla, earlier, Ashwath Marimuthu had shared a few intriguing details about the film. The director revealed that the story is rooted in the concept of paradise and will feature several female co-stars alongside Silambarasan. Comedian-actor Santhanam is also expected to play an important role in the narrative. The project has generated considerable curiosity as it marks a fresh genre for the actor, who has largely been associated with action dramas and commercial entertainers.

Rajinikanth film may take priority

Interestingly, Ashwath Marimuthu is also believed to be working on the screenplay of the tentatively titled 'Thalaivar173', starring Rajinikanth. Reports suggest that the filmmaker stepped in after directors Sundar C and Cibi Chakaravarthy were no longer associated with the project. Industry buzz indicates that Ashwath has requested the makers to wait before making any formal announcement until the script is fully ready and production plans are finalised. With the Rajinikanth starrer reportedly eyeing a summer 2027 release, it could explain why 'STR51' is expected to begin only later that year.

Recent outing of Silambarasan TR

Silambarasan was last seen sharing screen space with Kamal Haasan in Mani Ratnam’s 'Thug Life'. The action drama explored the fractured bond between an ageing gangster and his foster son after a relationship-altering misunderstanding. The film also featured Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, and Mahesh Manjrekar in significant roles. Despite the star-studded cast, the film struggled to impress audiences and critics and later premiered on Netflix.

Busy schedule ahead for Silambarasan

The actor is presently filming 'Arasan' under the direction of Vetrimaaran. Set within the universe of 'Vada Chennai', the upcoming gangster drama serves as a spin-off connected to the acclaimed franchise. Alongside Silambarasan, the film stars Vijay Sethupathi, Yogalakshmi, Chaitra J. Achar, and reportedly Priyanka Arul Mohan in pivotal roles. With 'Arasan' moving ahead steadily and 'STR51' waiting in the wings, the actor appears set for an eventful few years at the movies.
