Jamshedpur: As temperatures in the district soared past 40 degrees Celsius and humidity levels reached 78%, East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan has issued directives for immediate escalation of measures to alleviate public suffering due to the extreme heat.
Drinking Water Arrangements Ordered
The Deputy Commissioner instructed the heads of all government departments to promptly arrange drinking water facilities at their offices and residential premises. This step aims to ensure that residents visiting government establishments do not face hardship in the scorching heat. The order encompasses key locations such as block development offices, circle offices, panchayat bhawans, and rural market offices.
Civic Bodies to Expand Water Access
Civic bodies have been directed to broaden public access to drinking water. Officials from the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC), Jugsalai Municipal Council (JMC), and Chakulia Municipal Council (CMC) have been instructed to install water coolers and earthen pots at strategic points, including busy markets, public squares, and major road intersections. “People moving on the streets should not face any problem in finding water to quench their thirst,” Ranjan emphasized.
Rural Water Supply Strengthened
To bolster water supply in rural areas, the Deputy Commissioner directed the drinking water and sanitation department to inspect hand pumps and prioritize the repair of defective ones. Officials were also tasked with verifying that hand pumps repaired in recent weeks remain functional and to conduct regular monitoring of installations for maintenance purposes.
Accountability Measures
To prevent negligence and ensure accountability, the DC mandated that officials send real-time photographs of operational water installations to the district headquarters. “Along with official paperwork and files, live pictures must be provided to the headquarters to verify the ground reality,” he stated.
24x7 Helpline for Power Issues
Meanwhile, the Jamshedpur division of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL) has launched round-the-clock helpline numbers for consumers in Jamshedpur, Adityapur, Ghatsila, and Mango subdivisions. General Manager Ajit Kumar announced that the helplines will register complaints at any time for issues such as low voltage, power tripping, and transformer failures.
