A tragic road accident in Varanasi claimed the lives of a young woman and her father on Tuesday morning, while their neighbor sustained serious injuries. The incident occurred near Belwa under Phulpur police station when a speeding vehicle struck their motorcycle.
Victims Identified
The deceased were identified as Anchal Sonkar, 20, and her father Prithvi Nath Sonkar, 64, residents of Ramnagar. Their neighbor Dinesh Sonkar, 24, who was driving the motorcycle, suffered grave injuries and was rushed to BHU Trauma Centre.
Exam Day Tragedy
Anchal was on her way to appear for the UP police constable recruitment examination in Jaunpur when the accident happened. According to Phulpur police station in-charge Rajiv Kumar Singh, both Anchal and Prithvi Nath died on the spot.
Police Investigation
Police have sent the bodies for postmortem and lodged a case against the driver of the unidentified vehicle. Efforts are underway to trace the vehicle. Initial investigation revealed that Prithvi Nath, a laborer, had one son and three daughters.
Sequence of Events
On Tuesday morning, Prithvi Nath requested Dinesh, the son of a family friend from Mughalsarai area in Chandauli district, to take them to the exam centre in Jaunpur on his motorcycle. While traveling on the Belwa-Nagapur road of the Varanasi-Jaunpur bypass road, a speeding vehicle hit their motorcycle. Prithvi Nath and Anchal fell onto the road and were run over by the same vehicle. Dinesh suffered serious injuries in the accident.
