The state education department announced on Tuesday that the Union government has approved Rs 243.77 crore for Rajasthan under the Strengthening Teaching-Learning and Results for States (STARS) project for the financial year 2026-27. This centrally sponsored scheme, implemented with support from the World Bank, aims to enhance the quality of school education and improve student learning outcomes across the state.
Approved Activities Under STARS
The Project Approval Board of the Ministry of Education sanctioned a range of activities, including strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy in early grades, developing digital learning assessment systems, building teacher capacity, improving classroom instruction, expanding smart classrooms, promoting vocational education and training, career guidance, and fostering ICT-based teaching. These initiatives are designed to address key challenges in the education sector and ensure holistic development of students.
Focus on Service Delivery and Administration
Officials stated that for 2026-27, special emphasis will be placed on strengthening service delivery systems in schools and making overall educational administration more effective. This includes streamlining processes, enhancing monitoring mechanisms, and ensuring that resources reach the intended beneficiaries efficiently.
During a review meeting, the Ministry of Education appreciated the work being carried out by Rajasthan under the STARS project and directed that all approved activities be completed within the stipulated timeframe. A senior official from the education department remarked, "This approval will prove to be a significant step towards comprehensive reforms and quality enhancement in the state's education sector, providing students with a better learning environment and improved opportunities."
The funding is expected to accelerate the implementation of key educational reforms, particularly in areas such as early grade reading and math, digital assessment, and teacher professional development. The integration of technology in classrooms and the expansion of vocational training are also anticipated to better prepare students for future careers.
