Life Imprisonment Convict Escapes Bengaluru Jail Using Forged Supreme Court Orders
In a shocking incident at Bengaluru's central prison, a convict sentenced to life imprisonment managed to walk out of the jail by presenting fake Supreme Court orders. The scam came to light during a routine verification process, prompting an immediate investigation by prison authorities.
The convict, identified as 45-year-old Ravi Kumar, had been serving a life sentence for murder. According to officials, Kumar presented documents that appeared to be Supreme Court orders granting him bail. The forged papers were so convincing that jail staff allowed him to leave without suspicion.
The fraud was discovered when a senior officer, reviewing the day's releases, noticed discrepancies in the court order numbers. A subsequent check with the Supreme Court registry confirmed that no such order had been issued. By then, Kumar had already left the premises.
Prison authorities have lodged a complaint with the local police, who have launched a manhunt for the escaped convict. Preliminary investigations suggest that Kumar may have had inside help, as the forged documents included specific details about his case and the jail's procedures.
How the Escape Was Executed
Kumar reportedly received the fake orders through a visitor, who passed them during a meeting. The documents were then submitted to the prison office, where they were processed without thorough verification. The convict was released within hours of submitting the papers.
This incident has raised serious questions about security protocols in the prison. The Karnataka government has ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter. The inquiry will examine how the forged documents were created and why they were not detected earlier.
Meanwhile, the police have released a photograph of Kumar and are appealing to the public for any information about his whereabouts. They have also increased surveillance at railway stations, bus stands, and airports to prevent him from fleeing the state.
This is not the first time such a scam has occurred in Indian prisons. In 2019, a similar case was reported in Tihar Jail, where a convict used fake court orders to secure release. Authorities are now reviewing security measures across all prisons in the state to prevent such incidents in the future.
