A 27-year-old garment factory worker has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his colleague to death with a pair of scissors following a drunken argument at a factory in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar area, police said on Tuesday.
Arrest and Recovery of Evidence
The accused, identified as Arwaz, a resident of Sangam Vihar in south Delhi, was apprehended from Uttam Nagar. Police recovered the scissors allegedly used in the attack, along with blood-stained clothes suspected to have been worn during the incident.
Sequence of Events
The case began on June 5 when police were informed that an injured man had been admitted to Dr Hedgewar Hospital. The victim, Krishan Kumar, had suffered multiple stab wounds. When officers reached the hospital, Kumar was unable to provide details about the incident or identify the attacker. He later left the hospital without informing doctors and declined to take legal action when contacted.
On June 6, police received information from GTB Hospital that Kumar had died from his injuries, leading investigators to register a case and begin a detailed probe.
Investigation Details
During the investigation, police learned that Kumar worked at a garment factory in Raghuwarpura-II, Gandhi Nagar. Statements from the factory owner and employees were subsequently recorded. According to police, workers told investigators that several employees had been drinking alcohol inside the factory on the night of June 4 when an argument broke out. During the dispute, Arwaz allegedly assaulted another worker, identified as Tiger, before stabbing Kumar with a pair of scissors and fleeing the scene.
An FIR under Section 103(1) (Murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at Gandhi Nagar police station on June 7. Police said the accused was tracked down and arrested from Uttam Nagar within hours of the case being registered.
Background of the Accused
During questioning, investigators allegedly established Arwaz's involvement in the crime. Police said the accused later led them to the recovery of the blood-stained scissors and the clothes allegedly worn during the attack. A background check revealed that Arwaz had previously been involved as a juvenile in an attempt-to-murder case registered at Sangam Vihar police station in 2019.
Further investigation, including forensic examination of the recovered items and analysis of CCTV footage, is ongoing, officials added.
