Delhi Hit-and-Run: Car Kills 2 in Bawana, Driver at Large

New Delhi: Two people were killed and three others were injured after a speeding car allegedly rammed into an e-rickshaw in a hit-and-run incident in outer Delhi's Bawana on Wednesday. Earlier the same day, another hit-and-run in outer Delhi's Alipur left three people dead and four injured.

Police Recover Broken Number Plate as Key Lead

Police said they got a crucial lead in the Bawana case after the number plate of the offending vehicle broke off during the collision and was recovered from the spot by a relative of one of the victims.

Victims Identified

The deceased were identified as Zamir Alam, 55, who was driving the e-rickshaw, and Sone Lal Dass, 50, a passer-by. The injured — Rama, 45, Raj, 20, and Sahana, 22, — were taken to a nearby hospital and are undergoing treatment, police said.

Accident Details

According to police, information about the accident was received from the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation area in Bawana, following which a team was rushed to the spot. The driver of the car allegedly fled along with the vehicle after the collision.

Doctors declared Alam and Dass brought dead on arrival at the hospital, police said. Alam's grandson, Mohammad Haider, said a crowd had gathered at the spot, but no one came forward to help. "I took them to the hospital in my e-rickshaw. One man died on the spot, and my grandfather died on the way," he said.

Ankit, a cousin of Dass, said the victim was heading out to get his mobile phone recharged when the incident occurred. Relatives of the deceased alleged that the car also hit other vehicles, including a truck and another car, while fleeing.

Police Investigation

Police said a case has been registered and teams have been formed to trace the absconding driver and seize the vehicle.
