The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out searches at the residence and other properties linked to Jalandhar-based businessman Amit Bajaj, who is known for his close ties with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). In response, AAP framed the action as a raid on 'Hindu traders' of Punjab.
Details of the Raid
ED officials reached Bajaj's residence in the New Jawahar Nagar area and his office on Tuesday morning. Bajaj operates as a major contractor for the Municipal Corporation of Jalandhar and is widely recognized in political circles for his proximity to senior AAP leaders.
AAP's Reaction
AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal took to social media to criticize the BJP and the central agency. He posted, "ED party is once again conducting raids on Hindu traders in Punjab today. The ED party is harassing small Hindu traders in Punjab. I appeal to all traders - there is no need to panic, the entire Punjab and the Punjab government are with you, we will all together confront the ED party."
Other AAP leaders also echoed similar sentiments. AAP's national media in-charge posted, "The ED Party wants to instill fear in the minds of Hindu traders in Punjab. What a shameful thing it is that the ED Party people seek votes from Hindus and are hell-bent on ruining Hindus themselves."
Background
The raids are part of an ongoing investigation by the ED. Amit Bajaj's business dealings and political connections have come under scrutiny, leading to this enforcement action. The development has sparked a political debate, with AAP accusing the central government of targeting opposition supporters.
