A chain of events triggered by a sudden brake by an autorickshaw on the Rajiv Chowk flyover in Gurgaon on Saturday evening culminated in a multi-vehicle pileup and subsequent road rage, during which a woman was sexually harassed and intimidated by occupants of an SUV. The accused also shattered her car's windshield.
Incident Details
The incident occurred at approximately 8:10 PM. According to police, two suspects have been arrested. The victim, a woman in her 40s, was driving her Skoda home when the autorickshaw ahead braked abruptly. She managed to stop in time, avoiding a collision. The drivers of a white Grand Vitara behind her and an Ertiga behind the Vitara also stopped safely.
However, a black MG Hector allegedly speeding at over 100 kmph failed to stop and crashed into the Ertiga, causing a chain reaction that damaged multiple vehicles. Witness Ram reported to authorities that the Hector's airbags deployed, and one occupant suffered a broken jaw. The reason for the autorickshaw's sudden stop remains unknown.
Road Rage and Harassment
Before the woman could assess the damage, the Hector drove ahead and blocked her car. Five men exited the vehicle, appearing heavily intoxicated and aggressive. They surrounded her, hurling abuses and making obscene gestures, as stated in her complaint. They filmed her while falsely accusing her of causing the collision and threatened to upload the footage on social media. She attempted to de-escalate, insisting that any conversation take place only in the presence of police.
The situation worsened when one accused, dressed in black, smashed her windshield, pushed her, and attempted to touch her inappropriately. Another threatened to throw her in front of moving traffic. Passersby tried to intervene but failed to calm the men. Both the woman and Ram alleged that repeated calls to the police control room did not connect for at least five minutes. Ram stated, 'I dialed the control room but the calls were not going through. Even the woman's calls were not connecting. I feared the situation would turn more violent.' The woman eventually reached the helpline around 8:15 PM, after which police arrived.

An FIR was filed at Sadar police station under BNS sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 281 (rash driving), 324(4) (mischief), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 74 (assault against a woman with intent to outrage modesty), 75(2) (sexual harassment), and 79 (word, gesture, act, or intrusion intended to insult modesty).
