A 19-year-old woman in a village in Bithoor, Kanpur, died by suicide on Saturday evening after allegedly receiving objectionable and threatening messages from a man, police said.
Incident Details
The woman, a third-year BSc student who also worked at a finance company arranging credit cards, was found hanging in her home. Her sisters filed a complaint at the police station, accusing a man from Dabauli of circulating objectionable messages and harassing her for a year.
Harassment and Threats
The sisters alleged that the man regularly sent objectionable messages and threats. He also contacted the woman's fiancé, making objectionable remarks and asking him not to marry her. On Saturday evening, the man sent several threatening messages, prompting the woman to plead with him not to defame her. When he did not relent, she took the extreme step.
Police Investigation
Bithoor police station in-charge Ashok Saroj stated that the matter will be investigated and appropriate action will be taken. The woman's marriage was fixed, but the date had not been set.
