A 22-year-old man has been arrested by Sanpada police on charges of sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman who had recently returned from London, United Kingdom, where she is pursuing higher education. The accused has been identified as Mahir Makada, a resident of Sector 28 in Vashi.

According to Devidas Kathale, senior inspector of Sanpada police station, the incident occurred on the night of May 8 at a hotel in Sector 14, Sanpada. The victim filed a complaint on May 14, alleging that Makada sexually assaulted her while she was in an inebriated state. The initial FIR was registered at Vashi police station, but since the crime scene fell under Sanpada jurisdiction, the case was transferred to Sanpada police station on May 15. Makada was arrested on Saturday and has been remanded to police custody until Monday by the Belapur court.
Sequence of Events
Senior Inspector Kathale stated that the victim, who studies in London, had come to visit her family in Vashi. On May 8, she asked Makada, a friend, to accompany her for drinks. While she consumed beer, Makada did not. Claiming she was too intoxicated to return home, she decided to stay at a hotel. Makada took her to a hotel in Sanpada and insisted on staying with her. Taking advantage of her condition, he allegedly sexually assaulted her.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are investigating further. The accused remains in custody as the investigation continues.
