Man Dies in Electrocution While Moving Hotel Name Board

Vasai: A tragic incident occurred on Friday afternoon when a 20-year-old man lost his life due to electrocution while attempting to move a hotel's name board. Abhay Tiwari, the deceased, was part of a group of four staff members from Girnar Hotel in Naigaon, located on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway (NH48). The other three individuals involved in the incident escaped unharmed.

Details of the Incident

The four staff members were assigned the task of shifting the hotel's name board, which was positioned close to the main carriageway of NH48. The name board, approximately 12 to 13 feet tall, was equipped with wheels at its base. However, instead of rolling it, the workers lifted the board, causing it to come into contact with overhead power cables. The resulting electrocution threw all four individuals to the ground.

Abhay Tiwari was rushed to a hospital in Mira Road, where he was declared dead on arrival. The Naigaon police arrived at the scene and registered an accidental death report. They are currently investigating whether the hotel had the necessary permissions for the name board.

Police Investigation

According to officials from the Naigaon police station, the VVCMC encroachment drive was underway in the vicinity, which may have prompted the hotel staff to move the name board to avoid penalties. "We are still investigating the exact circumstances that led to the shifting of the name board," a police representative stated. "We have written to the corporation seeking details about the permissions this hotel had. Further actions will be taken based on the findings."

The police are also examining the safety protocols followed by the hotel and whether any negligence contributed to the fatal accident. The investigation is ongoing.
