Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Sunday contacted the parents of a 10-year-old girl who was murdered in Coimbatore, assuring them that the perpetrators would face justice. According to sources at the secretariat, Vijay told the grieving parents, "Don't worry, I am here for you." The child's grandmother expressed her anguish, stating that no other child should endure such torment. The chief minister promised that the government would take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. He also inquired about the family's needs, including housing, and pledged the necessary support.
Government Assistance and Ministerial Visit
Transport Minister Vijay Tamizhan Parthiban and Backward Classes Welfare Minister V Sampath Kumar visited the child's family on Sunday, presenting an ex-gratia payment of Rs 7 lakh under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Speaking to reporters, Parthiban emphasized that the loss was not just for one family but a tragedy for the entire state. "The government is committed to ensuring such incidents do not recur in Tamil Nadu. The police are conducting a swift investigation, and there will be no leniency in securing severe punishment for the culprits," he stated.
Political Reactions and Demands
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Nainar Nagenthran also met the affected family and offered condolences. He remarked that the incident had shocked the entire nation. "The law and order situation in Tamil Nadu is in a bad state. The government must take immediate and strict action to prevent such incidents from happening again," Nagenthran said. He demanded that the state government provide compensation of Rs 1 crore to the family. The tragic event has sparked widespread concern over child safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement in the state.
