Trichy: A convicted prisoner and two remanded accused were booked on Monday for possessing and smuggling 10 grams of ganja inside Trichy central prison. The contraband was discovered when prison authorities conducted a search among inmates on Sunday evening.

Details of the Incident

The convict, identified as A Muniyappan, 27, from Karur district, was working in the prison’s poultry farm. During an inquiry, he confessed that a visitor had given him the ganja and instructed him to hand it over to two other inmates: K Suriya Prakash, 21, from Dindigul district, and K Sameer Ahamed, 22, from Trichy. Both were recently remanded in a drug possession case.

Legal Action

Based on a complaint from prison officials, K K Nagar police registered a case and are investigating the matter further. The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
