Nashik: In a shocking incident on Sunday afternoon, two suspected cow smugglers were brutally beaten by a mob near the Dhule railway station area after locals allegedly discovered cows being illegally transported in a vehicle. The duo was later rescued and handed over to the police, thanks to the timely intervention of BJP MLA Anup Agrawal.
Incident Details
Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Upase confirmed that the incident occurred around 4:30 pm and stated that the Dhule city police are in the process of registering a case against the attackers. According to MLA Agrawal, passersby first noticed something amiss when “the limb of a bovine animal was hanging out of a vehicle’s luggage compartment.” This sparked suspicion, leading people to chase the vehicle and intercept it near the railway station.
Mob Assault and Rescue
After stopping the vehicle, the crowd began assaulting the two men who were transporting the animals. Agrawal, upon learning of the situation, rushed to the spot and successfully stopped the mob from continuing the assault. He strongly cautioned against vigilantism, emphasizing that he has repeatedly urged the police to take action against illegal slaughterhouses in the city. He warned that if people start taking the law into their own hands, the situation could spiral out of control.
Police Action
The police have assured that further action will be taken as part of the ongoing investigation. The rescued individuals are currently in police custody, and efforts are being made to identify the perpetrators of the mob violence.
This incident highlights the growing tensions surrounding cow vigilantism in the region and the need for lawful measures to address illegal activities without resorting to violence.
