The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday announced its candidates for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections from Graduates' and Teachers' constituencies. In a statement issued by the party, the BJP's Central Election Committee approved five candidates for the biennial elections to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council scheduled in 2026. The seats are falling vacant in December.
According to the list, the party has repeated all five candidates. While Awanish Kumar Singh has been named the BJP candidate from the Lucknow Graduates' constituency, Manvendra Pratap Singh will be back in contention from the Agra Graduates' seat.
For the Teachers' constituencies, the party has repeated Hari Singh Dhillon from the Bareilly-Moradabad Teachers' constituency, Umesh Dwivedi from Lucknow Teachers', and Shrichand Sharma from Meerut Teachers'. The announcement was issued under the signature of BJP national general secretary and headquarters in-charge Arun Singh.
The BJP's move is being seen as an early effort to strengthen its organisational and electoral positioning ahead of the Legislative Council elections in Uttar Pradesh. By renominating the same candidates, the party aims to leverage their experience and established voter base. The elections are crucial for the BJP as it seeks to maintain its dominance in the state's upper house.
