The Congress party held a press briefing at the AICC Office in New Delhi, led by Professor Rajeev Gowda and Shri Amitabh Dubey. The briefing addressed key issues concerning India's economic status, agricultural distress, and inflation under the current government.
Economic Status
Professor Gowda stated that India is rapidly moving towards becoming the world's third-largest economy. However, he noted a paradox: India was previously the fourth-largest economy but is now the sixth-largest. He attributed this decline to the weakness of the rupee, calling it a verdict on Prime Minister Modi's economic policies.
Agricultural Crisis
Shri Amitabh Dubey emphasized the need to make agriculture remunerative. He highlighted that in the last decade under Prime Minister Modi, every hour, one farmer or farm labourer dies by suicide. The burden of farm debt has escalated to 33.5 lakh crores, indicating a severe agricultural crisis.
Rising Inflation
The briefing also focused on inflation. The Congress party pointed out that contrary to PM Modi's promise of relief from inflation, prices have surged significantly since 2014. LPG rates have increased by 123%, petrol by 44%, diesel by 73%, milk by 71%, and pulses by 84%. The party criticized the government for failing to control inflation and provide relief to the common people.
The Congress leaders called for urgent policy measures to address these issues and reiterated their commitment to the welfare of farmers and the general public.
