Congress MP Manickam Tagore has hit back at the DMK, stating that the party's recent resolution targeting the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi is a sign of 'frustration' after its plans to prevent actor Vijay from becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu fell through.
DMK's Failed Strategy
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Tagore alleged that the DMK had been working behind the scenes to thwart Vijay's political ambitions. 'The DMK is acting out of frustration because its well-laid plans to stop Vijay from becoming the Chief Minister have completely failed. Now they are resorting to baseless attacks on Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party,' he said.
Youth Wing Resolution Dismissed
The Congress MP also dismissed the resolution adopted by the DMK during its Youth Wing meeting on Saturday, which criticized the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi. Tagore called the resolution 'a desperate attempt to divert attention from internal issues within the DMK.' He added, 'The people of Tamil Nadu have made their choice clear, and no amount of political maneuvering can change that.'
Tagore further emphasized that the Congress party remains committed to its alliance with the DMK at the national level, but would not hesitate to call out unfair tactics. 'We are partners in the INDIA bloc, but that does not mean we will stay silent when allies try to undermine democratic processes,' he stated.
Political Reactions
The DMK has not yet officially responded to Tagore's comments. However, political analysts suggest that the exchange highlights growing tensions within the ruling alliance in Tamil Nadu. Vijay, a popular actor, entered politics earlier this year and has been gaining significant traction, posing a challenge to established parties.
The Congress party has consistently supported Vijay's right to contest elections, with Tagore previously stating that 'democracy thrives when new voices emerge.' The DMK, on the other hand, views Vijay as a potential threat to its dominance in the state.
