KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, who had recently expressed public disappointment with the party leadership, has stepped down from all party posts on Wednesday. Earlier, the Barasat MP had resigned from her post as TMC's Barasat organisational district president on Sunday.
Resignation Letter Details
In a letter written on Sunday to state party general secretary Subrata Bakshi, she said she was taking moral responsibility for the party's defeat in Barasat. In her resignation letter, Ghosh Dastidar also made indirect remarks targeting political consultancy firm I-PAC, suggesting dissatisfaction over its role in organisational decisions and electoral performance.
Internal Party Discussions
Her latest move to quit all party responsibilities comes amid growing internal discussions within the TMC over the reasons behind the party's electoral setbacks in the region. A veteran TMC leader and chairperson of the party's women's wing, four-time MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has long been associated with party chief Mamata Banerjee and has frequently participated in organisational movements alongside her.
Previous Roles and Removal
She also served as the TMC's Chief Whip in the Lok Sabha. However, following the party's poor performance in the 2026 Assembly elections, she was removed from the post and replaced by Kalyan Banerjee. The developments signal ongoing tensions within the party as it grapples with electoral challenges.
