Tamil Nadu minister and DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin launched a sharp attack on the Congress party on Sunday, accusing it of betrayal and asserting that the DMK should never trust the Congress again. Speaking at a party workers' meeting in Chennai, Stalin said, "Congress stabbed DMK in the back. We have learned our lesson. Never trust them again."
Call for course-correction
Stalin, however, urged party members to focus on course-correction rather than engaging in a blame game. He pointed out significant gaps in the DMK's social media strategy, which he said allowed opposition parties to dominate the online narrative. "We need to strengthen our digital presence and counter misinformation effectively," he added.
Social media strategy gaps
The DMK leader highlighted that while the party has a strong grassroots network, its online outreach has been insufficient. He called for a dedicated team to manage social media platforms and to engage with younger voters. "Our opponents are using social media to spread lies. We must be proactive and not reactive," Stalin emphasized.
Political context
The remarks come amid growing tensions between the DMK and Congress, which are allies in the opposition INDIA bloc. The DMK has been critical of Congress's performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where the party failed to win seats in several key states. Udhayanidhi Stalin's comments signal a potential rift within the alliance ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections.
Political analysts view this as a strategic move by the DMK to assert its dominance in state politics and to distance itself from Congress's declining influence. The DMK is expected to contest the next elections on its own strength, with a focus on regional issues and anti-BJP sentiment.
