The Mysuru division of the South Western Railway (SWR) observed International Level Crossing Awareness Day on Tuesday, aiming to educate road users on safe practices at level crossings and prevent accidents caused by negligence and unsafe crossing habits.
Awareness Programme at Level Crossing Gate 4
As part of the campaign, a special awareness programme was organized at Level Crossing Gate 4, situated between Mysuru and Ashokapuram railway stations. The event was led by Mysuru Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mudit Mittal. Additional Divisional Railway Manager Shammas Hameed and other senior officials of the division were also present during the programme.
The officials inspected the level crossing and interacted with road users to spread awareness about the importance of adhering to safety rules while crossing railway tracks.
Key Safety Messages
Addressing the gathering, the DRM emphasized that safety at level crossings is a shared responsibility. He urged road users to exercise caution and strictly follow safety regulations while approaching and crossing railway tracks. He highlighted several important safety measures:
- Always stop, look, and listen before crossing.
- Never attempt to cross when the gate is closed or warning signals are active.
- Avoid rushing and refrain from using mobile phones or other distractions.
- Follow the instructions of gatekeepers and railway staff.
- Use only authorized level crossings instead of trespassing on railway tracks.
Additional Campaign Activities
The awareness campaign also featured the distribution of safety pamphlets, interactive sessions with road users, and live demonstrations on safe crossing practices, according to a release. A street play performed by the Scouts and Guides team of SWR conveyed key safety messages and encouraged responsible behavior among the public.
