Bengaluru's Domlur area has a new road safety concern. A white-topped road has been constructed around a standing electricity pole, creating a potentially dangerous setup for commuters, particularly at night.
Residents Voice Safety Concerns
Local residents have expressed alarm over the situation. They say the concrete divider surrounding the pole lacks reflective markings or illumination, making it a hazard for two-wheeler riders who might ride into it in the dark. The white-topping work, while intended to improve road quality, has instead introduced a new risk factor in the neighborhood.
Nighttime Danger for Two-Wheelers
The absence of reflective strips or lighting on the divider is a major worry. Two-wheeler riders, who are already vulnerable on city roads, face an increased risk of accidents. The pole's placement in the middle of the road further complicates traffic flow and poses a challenge to drivers unfamiliar with the area.
Residents have called on the civic authorities to address the issue urgently. They demand the installation of reflective markers and proper lighting around the structure to ensure visibility at night. Some have also suggested redesigning the road layout to eliminate the hazard altogether.
Civic Response Awaited
As of now, there has been no official response from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) or other concerned departments. The incident highlights the need for better planning and execution of road infrastructure projects to prioritize commuter safety.
This is not an isolated case in Bengaluru, where rapid urbanization and infrastructure development often lead to oversight in safety measures. Residents hope that the authorities will take swift action to prevent potential accidents and ensure that road improvements do not come at the cost of safety.
