Campaigning for the first phase of the panchayati raj elections in Himachal Pradesh concluded at 3pm on Sunday, May 25, ahead of polling scheduled for May 26 in 1,293 gram panchayats. The state election commission announced that candidates are now only permitted to conduct door-to-door campaigning.
Election Details
The polling will be conducted in three phases: May 26, May 28, and May 30. Voting will take place from 7am to 3pm using ballot papers. A total of 31,182 posts across the state are up for election, including 3,754 pradhans, 3,754 up-pradhans, 21,654 gram panchayat members, 1,769 panchayat samiti members, and 251 zila parishad members.
Uncontested Elections and Polling Stations
According to state election commission secretary Surjeet Singh Rathore, 10,854 candidates have already been elected unopposed. The commission has established 21,678 polling stations, of which 1,585 are classified as highly sensitive and 3,554 as sensitive. Around 8,198 polling parties have been deployed for the three-phase elections.
