Supporters of Karnataka MLA Raghavendra Hitnal gathered outside the residence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday evening, protesting against the state government's policies. The demonstrators raised slogans and demanded immediate action on several issues affecting their constituency.
Minister Appeals for Peace
Urban Development Minister Dr. Yathindra, who is also the son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, met the protesting crowd and urged them to remain calm. He assured them that their grievances would be addressed through proper channels. The protest, which began around 6 PM, saw a heavy police presence to prevent any untoward incidents.
Background of the Protest
The protest stems from alleged neglect of the Koppal region, represented by Hitnal. Supporters claim that the government has failed to deliver on promises related to infrastructure, water supply, and agricultural support. Hitnal, a prominent figure from the Congress party, has been vocal about these issues in the state assembly.
Eyewitnesses reported that the protest remained peaceful, with participants holding placards and chanting slogans. Yathindra's intervention helped diffuse tensions, and the crowd dispersed after his assurance. No arrests were made during the incident.
The Cauvery water dispute and other regional concerns have also been points of contention, though the protest primarily focused on local development issues. The government has yet to issue an official statement regarding the protest.
