LSG Likely for Major Overhaul After Disappointing IPL 2026 Season
LSG Likely for Major Overhaul After Disappointing IPL 2026

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are poised for a significant restructuring following a dismal IPL 2026 campaign. Global director of cricket Tom Moody acknowledged the franchise's failure to meet expectations and hinted at serious discussions regarding the team's leadership moving forward.

Struggles of Captain Rishabh Pant

LSG endured one of their worst seasons in franchise history, winning only four matches and finishing in the bottom two of the points table. Moody, speaking after a defeat to Punjab Kings, admitted that captain Rishabh Pant found the pressure of leadership challenging. "From a captaincy point of view, he's found it challenging, obviously, and the results reflect that," Moody said. He questioned whether the captaincy pressure affected Pant's batting performances, noting, "You do have to wonder whether that is a pressure that is reflected with his performance with the bat."

Pant's individual batting numbers have also come under scrutiny. Once regarded as one of the most explosive batters in IPL history, Pant has struggled to replicate his earlier success with LSG. Over two seasons for the franchise, he has managed 581 runs at a strike rate of 135.74, a significant drop from his career-best performances in 2018 and 2019.

Moody's Comments on Future Plans

Moody emphasized that the franchise would reflect on the season and consider all options. "We haven't lived up to the expectation or the standard that we expect of ourselves," he said. "When it comes to the leadership of the franchise, it's certainly something that we'll be taking some very serious consideration to, you know, what it looks like in the future." He added that a "reset" appears necessary, and decisions will be made after thorough evaluation.
