Hazaribag: An 18-year-old BCA student of Vinoba Bhave University allegedly died by suicide at a private hostel located in Musan Saw Lane late on Saturday, police said. The deceased was identified as Pankaj Kumar Singh, a native of Giridih. Pankaj was a tech-savvy student who developed an app, ‘One Near’, to help students search hostels or lodges in Hazaribag without brokers.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Pankaj was residing alone in the room on the second floor. No suicide note was found, Korra police said. Police sources said the room was locked from inside and opened after the arrival of the student’s family members from Giridih early on Sunday.

Korra police station officer in-charge Nemdhari Rajak said the body was handed over to the relatives of the deceased after post-mortem examination at the Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital in Hazaribag. A forensic and technical examination of the room would be conducted to ascertain the cause of death, officials said.

After breaking open the door with the help of family members who arrived from Giridih early Sunday, they discovered Pankaj’s body. No suicide note was found, leaving the motive unclear.

Police have initiated a thorough investigation. A forensic team will examine the room for any clues, and technical analysis of electronic devices may be conducted. The post-mortem was performed at Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital, after which the body was handed over to the family.
