In a significant crackdown on narcotics, police in Chatra district arrested a 35-year-old man and seized 1.38 kilograms of illegal opium during a special drive on Tuesday. The operation took place on the Belgachh–Chatra–Itkhori main road, falling under the jurisdiction of the Gidhaur police station.
Arrest and Seizure
The accused, identified as Uday Dangi, a resident of Kasiyadih Tikar village under the Sadar police station area, was taken into custody. Along with the contraband, law enforcement officials also recovered a mobile phone and a motorcycle from his possession.
The action was initiated based on a tip-off received by Chatra Superintendent of Police Animesh Naithany, leading to a coordinated effort by the local police team.
Legal Proceedings
Simaria Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nagargoje Shubham Bhausaheb confirmed that a case has been registered against Dangi under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He stated, “The accused was produced before the court and sent to judicial custody.”
The police continue to investigate the matter to trace the source of the opium and any potential links to larger drug networks operating in the region.
