Ubisoft Confirms Drunk Animus Screen Returns in AC Black Flag Remake

Ubisoft has officially confirmed that the upcoming remake, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, will retain the beloved drunk Animus loading screen featuring the pirate protagonist Edward Kenway. This clarification came in response to fan concerns after a gameplay clip shared by the company appeared to show a different version of the iconic scene.

Fan Confusion Over Gameplay Footage

The confusion began when Ubisoft posted a video on X, formerly known as Twitter, showcasing what it described as an "AC Black Flag Resynced drunk loading screen." In the clip, Edward Kenway walked normally while the screen itself swayed back and forth. Fans quickly noticed that the original 2013 game, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, handled the sequence differently. In the original, Edward would stumble and move erratically during the loading screen after consuming alcohol in the storyline.

Many players expressed disappointment and criticism online. One X user commented, "I'm sorry man but this is genuinely embarrassing why would you post this." Another wrote, "If you can't improve on something why put in the effort to make it worse?" A third user noted, "But he's not acting or moving like he's drunk at all..." A fourth added, "This is the laziest piece of shit I saw this week. Twisting the camera left and right while Edward is moving normally, really?"

Ubisoft's Response and Confirmation

In response to the backlash, Ubisoft released a follow-up message reassuring fans that the classic drunken sequence would indeed be included in the remake. Lead producer Justin Ng shared updated footage of the scene, accompanied by the caption, "Keep Rum and Carry On." This confirmed that Edward's original drunken movements from the loading screen will remain intact in the updated version.

Beyond the loading screen, Ubisoft has also confirmed that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced will feature a no-HUD option and blood during combat, enhancing the immersive experience. The remake is scheduled for release on July 9, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
