In a recent incident in Hyderabad, the Raidurgam police of the Cyberabad commissionerate detained a 19-year-old student for allegedly participating in illegal racing and injuring a police constable. The event unfolded on Saturday night when residents and commuters alerted the police about a group of youngsters causing chaos in the IT corridor. The individuals were reportedly speeding through roads in cars and on bikes fitted with modified silencers that produced excessive noise. The racers were seen speeding around prominent locations such as T-Hub, IKEA, and My Home Bhooja.
Police Response and Incident Details
Acting on the information, Raidurgam police promptly arrived at the stretch and began checking vehicles. During the operation, police attempted to stop a car, but the driver allegedly ignored the signal and sped towards the personnel. Constable Ramesh, who tried to block the vehicle, sustained minor injuries to his right thumb in the incident. Police reported that other racers fled the area upon noticing the police presence.
Detention and Charges
Police later detained the driver, identified as Mohammed Rehan, a 19-year-old second-year BBA student from Mehdipatnam. Officers seized the car and a mobile phone from his possession. According to the police, Rehan and three others were booked on charges including rash and negligent driving, illegal vehicle modification, driving without a licence, and obstructing government officials from discharging their duties.
Investigation and Ongoing Efforts
The Raidurgam inspector stated that efforts are underway to identify and trace the remaining racers who escaped from the scene. Police are also investigating whether the group was involved in organised late-night racing activities in the Financial District and Knowledge City areas. Authorities are urging the public to provide any information that could assist in the investigation.
