Since the launch of the Mobile Veterinary Services (MVS) initiative in August 2023, over 10 lakh animals have received treatment across Bengaluru. The initiative, run by the state animal husbandry department, has been providing on-the-spot medical care to animals in need, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas.
Daily Operations and Impact
On average, close to 1,000 animals have been treated every day through the MVS units. The mobile vans are equipped with essential medicines, diagnostic tools, and basic surgical equipment, allowing veterinarians to handle a wide range of cases.
Services Provided
The mobile units offer treatment for common ailments, vaccinations, minor surgeries, and emergency care. They also conduct awareness camps on animal health and hygiene. The initiative has significantly reduced the burden on stationary veterinary hospitals and improved access for farmers and pet owners in remote locations.
Future Plans
The department plans to expand the fleet of mobile vans and include more specialized services such as ultrasound and blood testing. Regular monitoring and feedback mechanisms are being implemented to enhance the quality of care.
