The Vizianagaram district police have rescued 156 cattle, including bulls, buffaloes, and cows, so far this year during targeted operations against illegal transportation of livestock. District Police Chief A.R. Damodhar stated that enforcement teams have seized 12 vehicles involved in these unlawful activities and apprehended 25 individuals in connection with the cases.
Strict Enforcement of Laws
The police are rigorously enforcing existing legislation to curb the illegal transportation and slaughter of cattle. Damodhar emphasized that checks have been intensified along known cattle smuggling routes, especially in border areas, to prevent such illegal activities. He added that the department plans to deploy drones and install CCTV cameras at strategic locations to further strengthen surveillance and deter offenders.
Stringent Action Against Illegal Trade
“We have intensified checks along cattle smuggling routes, particularly in border areas, to prevent illegal transportation of cattle. The police decided to use drones and CCTV cameras at strategic locations to further prevent illegal cattle transportation and will initiate stringent action against those involved in the illegal trade,” Damodhar said.
Regional Concerns
Leaders and activists from various organizations have alleged that illegal cattle transportation is rampant in parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh, including Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Manyam districts. They claim that gangs from neighboring states such as Telangana, Odisha, and Karnataka are actively involved in this illicit trade.
The police continue to monitor the situation closely and have urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to cattle transportation.
