Spotted Deer Rescued in Sahibganj Dies During Treatment

Dumka: A spotted deer was rescued from near the electricity office in Sahibganj town but died during treatment on Saturday, forest officials said.

Rescue Operation

Residents gathered in large numbers as word spread that a deer had entered a residential locality for the first time. Many people recorded videos and took photographs of the animal on their mobile phones. Officials said the deer appeared extremely scared and kept trying to run in different directions amid the crowd and noise.

“This was the first rescue of a spotted deer from the city area. Preliminary estimates suggest that the deer may have strayed into the town after losing its way from nearby forests or hilly regions,” a forest official said.

Cause of Death

Forest ranger Pancham Dubey said, “The animal was under severe stress due to fear and crowd pressure, and prima facie, it is believed that panic may have led to its death.”

A post-mortem examination was conducted by a team of veterinary doctors to determine the exact cause of death. After the post-mortem, the carcass was buried inside the forest department premises as per protocol, Dubey added.
