Ahmedabad Fuel Prices Cross Rs 100 After Fourth Hike in 11 Days

Ahmedabad: Fuel prices were raised for the fourth time in just 11 days on Monday, pushing petrol rates in Ahmedabad beyond the Rs 100-per-litre threshold. State-run oil marketing companies revised retail fuel prices with effect from 6am on May 25.

Price Revision Details

Petrol prices in Ahmedabad rose by Rs 2.60 per litre from Rs 99.23 to Rs 101.83, while diesel rates increased by Rs 2.79 per litre from Rs 95.13 to Rs 97.92. The latest revision comes barely two days after the previous increase on May 23, following earlier hikes announced on May 15 and May 19.

Impact on Consumers

With this, petrol prices in Ahmedabad have once again crossed the psychologically significant Rs 100 mark. Since the first revision on May 15, petrol prices have climbed by Rs 7.32 per litre, rising from Rs 94.51 to Rs 101.83. Diesel prices have gone up by Rs 7.75 per litre during the same period, increasing from Rs 90.17 to Rs 97.92.

With petrol now retailing above Rs 101 per litre in Ahmedabad and diesel nearing Rs 98 per litre, transporters, businesses and daily commuters are likely to face higher cost pressures in the coming days. The consecutive hikes have added a significant burden on household budgets and operational costs for industries reliant on fuel.

Context of Price Increases

The series of revisions began on May 15, followed by increases on May 19 and May 23, before the latest on May 25. The cumulative effect has been a sharp rise in retail fuel prices, reversing any previous reductions. Market analysts attribute the hikes to global crude oil price fluctuations and changes in excise duties.

Consumers are advised to monitor daily price updates, as oil marketing companies continue to adjust rates based on international benchmarks. The Ahmedabad region, known for its significant vehicular traffic and industrial activity, is particularly sensitive to fuel price changes.
