Bhopal: Even as global crude prices ease following an agreement between Iran and the United States to end the West Asian conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz—a vital route for global energy trade—a section of state employees is demanding an increase in fuel allowance.
Class 3 and 4 employees argue that they are entitled to a monthly fuel allowance of Rs 384, which they claim is insufficient to purchase even 4 litres of petrol. Citing recent volatility in global fuel prices, the employees have urged the government to at least match their allowance with that of central government staff.
The demand for a fuel allowance hike gains significance as the current rate of Rs 384 was implemented last year after a 12-year gap, up from the previous Rs 200. The employees' union is also pushing for the extension of fuel allowance to all state employees, as currently only those in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, and Gwalior receive it.
