Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has joined forces with Airtel Payments Bank to launch RuPay On-the-Go contactless prepaid cards. These cards are designed to streamline the travel experience for commuters by enabling seamless entry and exit at metro stations, as well as facilitating cashless payments for various services.
Key Features of the RuPay On-the-Go Cards
The newly introduced cards are based on the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) standard, which allows interoperability across different modes of transport. Commuters can use the same card for metro travel, bus rides, and even retail purchases. The cards are prepaid, reloadable, and come with a contactless interface for quick transactions.
Benefits for Commuters
- Convenience: No need to carry multiple cards or cash. One card suffices for travel and shopping.
- Speed: Contactless technology reduces transaction time, making boarding faster.
- Recharge Options: Cards can be recharged online via the Airtel Thanks app or at designated metro stations.
How to Get the Card
Passengers can obtain the RuPay On-the-Go card at select Delhi Metro stations or through the Airtel Payments Bank network. The card requires a one-time issuance fee and can be topped up as needed. No bank account is necessary to use the card, making it accessible to a wider audience.
Partnership Details
This collaboration between DMRC and Airtel Payments Bank aims to promote digital payments and enhance the commuter experience. Anubhav Jain, CEO of Airtel Payments Bank, stated, "We are delighted to partner with DMRC to provide a seamless payment solution for millions of daily commuters. This initiative aligns with our vision of a digital India." DMRC officials echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the convenience and security of the new card.
Future Plans
Both entities plan to expand the availability of the cards to more stations and integrate additional services such as parking fees and utility bill payments. The long-term goal is to create a unified payment ecosystem for urban mobility across India.
