Meerut: An FIR has been registered in Hapur against the CEO and several officials of Cars24, a used-car services firm, in connection with a fatal road crash allegedly involving a vehicle sold without transfer of ownership. The case was lodged under Section 318 of the BNS (cheating) on Sunday evening on the orders of a local court following a complaint by Vikas Kumar Tyagi, a resident of Hapur's Awas Vikas Colony.
Tyagi stated that he had sold his car through a Meerut-based Cars24 dealer. He alleged that the company and its associated persons handed over the vehicle to another buyer without completing the mandatory ownership transfer process. According to Tyagi, he sold his car, which was registered in 2011, to the dealer in September 2025 and received the payment receipt and other related documents. The dealer assured him that he would be called to the RTO office for the transfer once the car was sold.
On May 1, the police informed Tyagi that a man had died in an accident involving his car. He then discovered that the car was still registered in his name. Despite approaching the company, no satisfactory action was taken, prompting him to move court. The FIR names the CEO and other officials of Cars24, along with the dealer involved.
