Shimla: In a significant move to bolster the cooperative banking sector, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday underscored the necessity of channeling state government deposits into the Himachal Pradesh State Cooperative Bank (HPSCB). This strategic step aims to fortify the financial foundation and ensure the long-term viability of cooperative banks across the state.

Addressing the audience after inaugurating a newly established HPSCB branch at Kaithu in Shimla, Chief Minister Sukhu articulated the pivotal role that cooperative banks play in fostering inclusive economic development. He emphasized that these institutions are instrumental in driving socio-economic progress in Himachal Pradesh, particularly by reaching underserved communities.

Sukhu reiterated the state government's unwavering dedication to promoting financial inclusion, with a focus on extending modern banking facilities to all segments of society. He pointed out that cooperative banks are crucial in supporting key stakeholders such as farmers, small-scale traders, self-help groups, and rural entrepreneurs, thereby making substantial contributions to local economies.

The Chief Minister commended HPSCB for its efforts in integrating technology-driven banking services while maintaining a strong commitment to serving the common people. During the event, HPSCB presented a cheque of Rs 2 crore to the Chief Minister for the Chief Minister Relief Fund, demonstrating its active participation in state welfare efforts.
