Noida: Amid rising power demand during the ongoing heatwave, the Noida power department has energised a newly constructed 33/11 kV substation in Shahberi to improve electricity distribution and reduce load pressure in the region.
The Shahberi substation, built at a cost of Rs 12 crore, was energised on Friday and is expected to benefit around 8,000 consumers in Shahberi and adjoining areas. Prior to this, electricity supply to the locality was routed through the 33/11 kV substation at Sudamapuri in Ghaziabad, a key distribution node of the Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) supplying power to Dundahera, Biharipura and nearby localities.
Construction of the Shahberi substation began in February this year. According to officials, charging of the facility was completed by May 20, followed by testing before full energisation on May 22.
“A part of the load at the new 33/11 kV substation at Shahberi has already been activated, while full-scale power distribution is now underway. The substation comprises two 10 MVA transformers and has an operating capacity at 33/11 kV,” said Vivek Patel, superintending engineer, Noida power department, PVVNL. Officials said the new infrastructure is expected to strengthen supply reliability and ensure better power distribution in the area.
“In light of rising electricity consumption during summer, we are making concerted efforts to manage demand and prioritise consumer grievances. The Shahberi substation is a crucial step towards strengthening power infrastructure and ensuring reliable supply,” said Sanjay Kumar Jain, chief engineer, Noida power department, PVVNL.
The substation is expected to significantly ease the load on the existing Sudamapuri substation, which had been overburdened due to the growing population and commercial activities in the region. With the new facility, residents in Shahberi, Dundahera, Biharipura, and surrounding areas will experience fewer power cuts and voltage fluctuations, especially during peak summer months.
Officials also highlighted that the substation is equipped with modern protection and control systems, ensuring safe and efficient operation. The project is part of a broader initiative by PVVNL to upgrade the power distribution network in Noida and Ghaziabad districts to meet the increasing electricity demand.
