The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Raminder Singh Wadhwa, a former Captain in the Indian Navy, on charges of accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The alleged period of illicit accumulation spans from 2010 to 2020.
Background of the Accused
Wadhwa served in sensitive positions, including the National Security Council Secretariat and the Directorate of Naval Design, which is responsible for overseeing the design of warships and submarines for the Navy. He was also posted at other critical locations such as the Directorate of Network Centric Operations and the naval dockyard in Mumbai.
Details of the FIR
The FIR, filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act, alleges that Wadhwa and his family amassed assets that were 46 percent more than their legitimate and declared income. According to the CBI, in April 2010, Wadhwa and his family owned three immovable assets valued at Rs 2.25 crore and had bank balances totaling Rs 5.93 crore. By March 2020, the family had acquired seven additional immovable assets valued at Rs 6.2 crore.
The FIR further states, "The quantum of disproportionate assets is likely to increase once expenditures are also considered." It also alleges that Wadhwa constructed a farmhouse on land he purchased in Panchkula in 2011.
Legal Proceedings
The CBI is conducting a thorough investigation into the matter, and further legal actions are expected as the probe progresses. The case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat corruption among public servants.
