A new 66/11 kV power substation has commenced operations in Sector 8 of the Industrial Model Township (IMT) in Manesar, a pivotal economic hub in Haryana. The project, executed by the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) at an estimated cost of Rs 28 crore, is designed to resolve persistent power outages, voltage fluctuations, and grid tripping that have long hampered manufacturing productivity in the region.
Infrastructure Boost for Industrial Sector
The substation is part of a broader initiative by HSIIDC's power wing to strengthen the electrical grid. Once fully operational, it is expected to provide stable and uninterrupted electricity to sectors 1, 2, 3, 4, and 8 of IMT Manesar. This development follows the integration of these sectors into an underground cabling network connected to the 220 kV substation at the Technology Park.
Relief for Entrepreneurs and MSMEs
For industrial units in Manesar, this substation brings much-needed relief. Over the years, the industrial belt has frequently grappled with power instability, especially during summer months. Factory owners have complained that unscheduled power cuts and voltage volatility disrupt manufacturing schedules, damage machinery, and increase operational costs. Industrial associations have highlighted how such outages force businesses to rely heavily on diesel generator sets, which are cost-prohibitive due to volatile fuel prices and ecologically unsustainable.
Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which are particularly vulnerable to supply chain delays caused by production stoppages, have been among the hardest hit. Previous summers saw industrialists forced to curtail operations or scramble to maintain productivity during peak heatwaves. Even minor weather events, such as light rain or gusty winds, could trigger widespread system failures.
Long-Term Solution to Grid Instability
By strengthening the power infrastructure, HSIIDC aims to move beyond temporary fixes and address the root causes of grid instability. Officials have expressed confidence that the new substation, combined with ongoing modernisation of the distribution network, will ensure a more robust energy supply for the region. This initiative represents a vital step towards creating a reliable environment that supports industrial growth, minimises wastage, and keeps production running without the looming fear of sudden blackouts.
