TNPCB drops action against Tata Electronics Hosur plant over water contamination claims
TNPCB drops action against Tata Electronics Hosur plant

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu pollution monitoring body has dropped action against the Tata Electronics’ Hosur plant after sample analysis failed to indicate water contamination, the company said in a statement on Tuesday. The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has withdrawn any further action on the showcause notice following a satisfactory response from the company.

The recently collected water samples from Tata Electronics’ manufacturing facility in Hosur do not indicate any contamination, TNPCB has confirmed based on its own analysis and reports, the statement noted. “The findings indicate that the levels of total dissolved solids (TDS), chemical oxygen demand (COD), biological oxygen demand (BOD), and other parameters are within acceptable environmental limits,” it noted.

Earlier, several notices were issued to Tata from December to May over the alleged contamination of neighbouring wells and farmlands. The company said it took immediate action on the matter, commissioning an independent analysis through a laboratory, the results of which indicated that all the parameters were within prescribed limits. A formal response, including the results of this study, was submitted to TNPCB on time.
