The price of domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders has been increased by Rs 29, effective from March 1, 2025. This marks the first price revision in several months, impacting households across the country. The revised rates vary by city due to differences in local taxes and transportation costs.
Revised LPG Prices in Major Cities
Here are the updated prices for a standard 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in key Indian cities:
- New Delhi: Rs 903 (up from Rs 874)
- Mumbai: Rs 902.50 (up from Rs 873.50)
- Kolkata: Rs 929 (up from Rs 900)
- Chennai: Rs 918.50 (up from Rs 889.50)
- Bengaluru: Rs 909 (up from Rs 880)
- Hyderabad: Rs 919.50 (up from Rs 890.50)
Reason for Price Hike
The increase is attributed to a rise in international crude oil prices and adjustments in the rupee-dollar exchange rate. Oil marketing companies revise LPG prices monthly based on the average international price and currency fluctuations.
Impact on Consumers
The price hike adds to the financial burden on households, especially those relying on LPG for cooking. However, the government's Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries continue to receive subsidies, with the effective price for them remaining lower.
Consumers are advised to check the latest rates on the official websites of their respective oil companies before booking refills. The price of commercial LPG cylinders has also been revised, with a 19 kg cylinder now costing around Rs 1,700 in Delhi, up by Rs 35.
