India Raises Export Duty on Diesel and ATF, Petrol Levy Unchanged

The Indian government has decided to increase the export duty on diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) by Re 1 per litre each, bringing the total levy to Rs 2 per litre. However, the export duty on petrol remains unchanged, and there is no impact on domestic fuel prices.

Revised Export Duty Structure

As per a notification from the Ministry of Finance, the export duty on diesel has been raised from Re 1 per litre to Rs 2 per litre. Similarly, the export duty on ATF has been increased from Re 1 per litre to Rs 2 per litre. The export duty on petrol continues to be nil, as it was previously.

No Change in Domestic Prices

The government has clarified that the revised export duties will not affect domestic retail prices of diesel, petrol, or ATF. The move is aimed at ensuring adequate domestic supply and curbing exports amid global price volatility.

  • Diesel: Export duty hiked from Re 1 to Rs 2 per litre.
  • ATF: Export duty increased from Re 1 to Rs 2 per litre.
  • Petrol: Export duty remains nil.

The decision comes as part of the government's ongoing efforts to manage fuel exports and maintain stability in the domestic market. Industry experts believe this step will help prioritize domestic requirements over international shipments.

Oil marketing companies have welcomed the move, stating that it will prevent shortages in the domestic market and support the country's energy security. The revised duties are effective immediately.
