India Seeks Public Input for Budget 2026: Share Your Ideas on MyGov
Public Suggestions Sought for Union Budget 2026-27

The Government of India has launched a unique public outreach initiative, calling upon all citizens to actively participate in shaping the nation's financial future. In a significant move towards participatory governance, the government is now collecting suggestions from the general public for the upcoming Union Budget for the fiscal year 2026-27.

How to Contribute Your Ideas for National Development

MyGovIndia, the government's citizen engagement platform, announced the initiative through a post on social media platform X. The government's message, titled "Building the Budget with Public Insight," encourages people to visit the MyGov website and submit their views on what the next budget should prioritize. This direct invitation aims to gather diverse perspectives to help formulate policies that drive inclusive growth and national development.

This public consultation follows an extensive series of structured pre-budget meetings conducted by the Union Finance Minister. Nirmala Sitharaman recently concluded multiple rounds of Pre-Budget Consultations in New Delhi as part of the preparatory process for the Budget, which is constitutionally mandated to be presented in Parliament on February 1 each year.

Stakeholder Consultations Pave the Way

The finance minister's consultations began with leading economists, setting the stage for a wide-ranging dialogue. Subsequent sessions were held with representatives from farmer associations and agriculture economists, ensuring the vital agricultural sector's concerns were heard. The government then engaged with stakeholders from key economic segments including:

  • Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)
  • Capital markets and startups
  • Manufacturing sector
  • Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI)
  • Information technology
  • Tourism and hospitality
  • Trade unions and labour organisations

These mandatory pre-budget meetings between the Finance Minister, secretaries, and various groups are designed to make the budget-making process comprehensive and all-inclusive.

Industry Bodies Present Their Wishlist

Earlier this month, various industry organizations had already begun submitting their formal recommendations. Notably, the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) presented a set of pre-budget suggestions specifically for the MSME sector to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Their proposals centered on providing easier taxes, cheaper credit, and simpler regulatory rules for small businesses.

The chamber's recommendations focused on potential changes in income tax structures, access to bank loans, export support mechanisms, and equity funding avenues. The stated goal is to enable MSMEs to operate with lower costs and fewer delays, thereby helping them grow, repay loans promptly, and enhance their competitiveness in the global market.

The formulation of the Union Budget 2026-27 is taking place against an economic backdrop of robust GDP growth figures and manageable inflation levels. By opening the process to direct public input through the MyGov portal, the government aims to infuse the budget with grassroots insights, aligning national fiscal policy with the aspirations and practical needs of its citizens.
